3GG Review
Just like a doctor’s diagnosis tells us what to do to have better physical health, reading assessments tell us how to help our students to read better. Reading assessments were given by September 30th to Kg-3rd grades to diagnose reading skills. A letter will be mailed to your home in November. If the assessment shows that the student is not on track to be reading at grade level by the end of the year, the school will provide, in writing, .
-
Notice that the school has identified a reading deficiency with your child;
-
A description of current services provided to the student;
-
A description of proposed supplemental instruction services
An additional support for students not on track is, Reading Improvement, and Monitoring Plan(RIMP). The RIMP allows teachers and parents to work together to understand the students reading deficiency and outline reading intervention and support.
Why is this so important? Children learn to read from kindergarten through 2nd grade. But now in third grade, students read to learn. Good reading promotes future success.
